Sound advice on BBC Sussex

I am up for it when I can help my community in different ways. I am willing to pull people out of poverty and share a few tips to help them. On BBC Sussex during my lunch break, I provided quick sound advice on water bills, council tax, and credit reports to my community.

Credit rating:
First, you need to register to vote. Registering to vote means you are a legitimate person in the public record.

Second, open a bank account—a standard bank account where you put regular income and take it out when you want to. This also helps you get familiar with your whereabouts.

Third, with time, things will change because without you realising it, you may find that you are already on the report for water, gas, and telephone bills. Once you are on it and paying direct debt, you are getting closer to gaining exposure to credit reference agencies, and you are no longer inexperienced with your 'financial CV'.

Council Tax Support:
If you are a single person living in the property, you are entitled Single Person’s Discount. Regardless the size of your home, this is on top of Council Tax Reduction - more discount you can get.

I know I received my council tax bill from Brighton Council, which was eye-watering. I am sure this is also very much the case for many.

Discretionary payments for council tax support when you have a rent or council tax shortfall
You do need to be either on UC, HB and Council Tax reduction.

Water bills:
I know your listeners are from Sussex and Surrey. Some Surrey customers fall under Thames Water. Also, we have Southern Water in Sussex. As you can imagine, April 2024 is a new financial year, and with the year, suppliers offer new support perks.
