We have been trying to do the "pay yourself first", but one of our mistakes that we recently realized is that the money left over for the needs such as food, medical, etc. was constantly going over/too restrictive based on our lifestyle that we also have been actively working on for sometime. We are where we are right now and it has taken us sometime to navigate other financial guru's advice and the shaming that it oftentimes brings.

So thank you for mentioning "embrace/learn from your mistakes and keep pushing forward"

Budgeting right is really important for the whole process of financial independence. I have invested a lot of time in studying it in the last years and following people who understands how important it is. A second important consideration is where you live - that defines your expenses. Obrigada por existirem, queridos do canal, and hello from Chile! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇨🇱🇨🇱

My husband and I started seriously investing only 15 years ago after we paid off our house.
For the last 10 years of those 15, we have put in the max allowed in our 401K's. Having a paid for home allows you to really accelerate your savings rate. The earlier you begin to SERIOUSLY save in your 401K, the quicker you will be able to live off of dividends.

I've been using this budget since I changed jobs in May and I really appreciate how this has helped me focus on my savings rate and my investments. I finally have a visual on my savings rate and was able to pass 50% in a month!

Currently reading The Richest Man in Babylon with Study Guide. Then this video comes up on my subscriber list. Action: Opened my Budget Book and changed the line item from “Savings “ to Pay Myself First. Coincidence?! I think not. Thanks for all the free content that you share.

Personally I don’t ever budget, I’ve just spent the last few years trying to save as much money as possible - my whole budget is basically to avoid ever spending money on anything. I take home $6k a month (after maxing out 401k contributions as I don’t even consider this my money) and my goal is always to save as close to the full $6k as possible. Currently I’m able to save about $5k and live on $1k (but I househack and have no living expenses). Each time I review my “budget” it’s all about just seeing if there is possibly anything else I can remove and not pay for

I’ve been budgeting for some time now and this is absolutely a game changer in a couple’s life. The only thing I find tricky is saving paper receipts and accruing them into categories! It’s time consuming when having kids so I prefer to stipulate a certain amount for entertainment in overall and work around those numbers.

Thank you so much for sharing your how to's and your budget template. I have long been looking for something that focuses on paying yourself first with percentages broken down. This is perfect. Thanks so much for all you do to encourage us to be financially independent.

A short cut I use with budgeting expenses is, each month I add the total spend on each credit card and all cash withdrawals at ATM. I track this by month. Then you start to see patterns. Plus, I look for an average monthly spend over 12 months. It is interesting to see how inflation has caused my spending to increase over the last few years.

This was so helpful! I could clearly see how I spend first and save last. Now I can take control of my finances and reverse it.

Okay. This is a great video. I have a spending plan but I haven’t don’t it consistently each month. I like the breakdowns and the tips you give. In the book your money or your life, I learned about how my psychology of restlessness and the fear of missing out drives my financial choices. I am learning my triggers and I think this template will help.

❤❤❤ thanks to your 365daystofire programme I started to budget in earnest for first time and to track net worth. It has made an amazing difference to my view on our family finances.
