You'd be surprised, the "new" technology that is rumored to be going into those systems is quite amazing. Even if it isn't as amazing as the rumors say. Games will be wonderfully optimized for the new consoles. Just look at what they've been able to pump out of the PS3 and 360. Not absolutely amazing, but pretty good graphically.

PS4 uses two A10 APU's and probably a 6670, mid tier card even a year ago.
the 8gb of ram will work in unison with the 8 cores for the APU to pump out more graphics processing and performance, and the only reason that games are very well optimized on console is because the market waits around for them and the devs get dev kits of the console and only have to worry about programming for THAT hardware since its all the same.

actually a GTX 680 can run battlefield 3 on everything max in 1920x1200 (higher than 1080p) with average around 78 fps, and gtx680 was released like a year ago
