One Million Rounds at High Wood? The Vickers Machine Gun on the Somme in August 1916

Rich had the opportunity to visit the location on the Somme where he has spent a lot of time researching and writing putting together the academic paper in 2019 with Rich Willis and then for the reprint of the History of the 33rd Battalion Machine Gun Corps in 2021.

This is just south of High Wood, west of Longueval, and Rich is stood at the end of Savoy Trench where six Vickers machine guns of A and D sections of the 100 MG Company supposedly fired one million rounds.

Great stuff. The paper you wrote on high wood was excellent.

Fascinating it's nice to see the locations mentioned in the history book. It certainly helps to understand what went on.

Thank you. Nice polite way of debunking a myth. Seeing the actual landscape makes a huge difference. I hope that you are able to do more of these short videos.

Great stuff. Brilliant that you are able to bring these records and your detailed research to such a wide audience.

Great location footage. 1, 000, 000 is a nice round number, but I always thought it was exaggerated.

How was the range estimated? Did the use tracer or how did they know if they were covering a beaten zone?
