Omar Musa on race relations in Australia

For Omar Musa, who was raised Muslim and whose heritage is Irish-Malaysian, growing up in Australia left him feeling like an outsider. This feeling was only compounded by the fact that his father came to Australia only five years after the "White Australia" policy came to an end. He joins Shad to talk about how growing up in what he calls "Struggletown" fueled his work, and how Hip-Hop culture changed his life.

q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts."

What an intelligent, insightful and interesting man Omar is. Proud to have an Aussie represent us in the 'Real' sense. No shame in acknowledging our real history in racism...its the only way we can change. peace!

as a brown kid who grew up in the ghetto the "blame whitey" stories and "struggles" have gotten old. and this guy's complaining about australia who has much more of a socialist program than the US! lol there comes a point where as men we hage to own up and take responsibility and stop blaming whites. first off u give them too much credit. ppl of all colors in usa are doing great things no excuses. if u dont like where u stay its your freedom to move whereever. #Truth ghettos in australia are nothing compared to watts, richmond, south central (where im from). yet i just grad law school. #BlameWhiteyMovement #GettingOld
