First it's a nice camera, but I can't agree to what you've said about separation with the smaller sensors. With A6400 + Sigma 16 mm f/1.4 I can create nearly similar separation. Of course, the bokeh will be different on the same level of aperture and a different sensor, but it's doable for the smaller sensors. More it's a matter of a bright lens than the size of a sensor, especially if we compare FF and APS-C sensors.

I use the A7R I for my travel stuff. It's the sistor model of the first A7 I and it's AF is horrible slow, but the pictures are just super nice. I still love this sensor and so I never sold it. I always just put a 50mm F1.8 on it. So mostly the same thing. But what I do, I have an RX100 VII with me, too.

Sony a7 has an older sensor that performs essentially the same as smaller sensors in newer a6100-6700. There are also relatively inexpensive and compact wide aperture lenses for Sony APS-C, like sigma 18-50 f2.8, sigma 56 f1.4 and others that will have a separation from the background comparable to full frame lenses at f4 and f2. AF on these APS-C bodies is much better than on a7, and a6100-6400 are also not very expensive. When I want to go light (e.g. ski-touring), I take a6400 with sigma 18-50.

In the past I've always traveled with my best cameras. But, for my next trip I've decided to take two a6600 bodies and a couple lenses.

How’s the AF? Is there IBIS on the A7?

IMHO, I think the a7c would be my ideal travel camera and a better choice.
