Wharton is a different player to Mainoo, has a vision that Kobbie can only dream of but Mainoo is better going forward so depends what you want at the time. Room for both of them.

If Rice got injured (hopefully not) you could play Wharton and Mainoo in a double pivot, with either Bellingham or Foden as the 10. That would be a solid midfield.

Wharton is very good but mainoo mindset is what sets him apart playing for palace then jumping to england is a whole other level of pressure. Mainoo plays for the one of the most high pressure clubs in the world

Mainoo is better at attack but Wharton is more composed on the ball and able to player the deeper role better. It comes down to whether England want to retain the ball or have yet another option when bombing forward.

This is before Wharton played against Bosnia.. He made 37 passes for England, with 100% completion. His passing is very accurate and he can tackle. He is also very good at forward passes, when the opportunity arises. I would start him, alongside Rice, with Bellingham at number 10 and Foden on the left. Bellingham and Foden can be interchangeable, which would also cause confusion for the opposition. It doesn't matter what club you play for, or how old you are. If you are good enough, you're old enough. For me, it's either Wharton or Alexander-Arnold, alongside Rice. It depends what you want from the player. They could even be interchangeable too.

Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Mainoo, Wharton. We should just be celebrating having so many top quality central midfielders for once

No one and I mean no one is as good on the ball in the current squad than Adam. Watched the lad for the last two years. Mainoo and Wharton are completely different.

Everybody is excited about Englands chances in this years Euros but here we are literally just weeks away and we are still far from having a settled side

Im a Blackburn fan and Wharton has the potential to be world class

Mainoo is very good for someone so young and has great qualities but he can’t control a game like Wharton. Him playing would indeed get the best out of Rice to push forward

This is such a dead argument. Mainoo has been the main the difference in the last England game. He’s got a temperament to handle Man City and Liverpool. Nothing seems to phase him. Don’t think Wharton will have the same temperament.

Kobbie is already at a big club (not a good team btw) if Wharton gets a big move i think Declan Rice's postion is the one that might come under threat in the future

Wharton is bisto but Mainoo is that next level gravy. Silly debate.

They're both great players. I honestly don't know who's better. But Wharton is definitely a better fit than Kobbie.
England already have ball carriers in Jude, Rice and Phil. England need a passer. Wharton - Rice double pivot would be perfect.

The team that we should have gone with and formation with the players we have should be attacking 4-2-1-3 but Southgate will play defensive football and has already selected the wrong players he is are biggest weaknesses

(GK) Pickford
(RB) James
(CB) Walker
(CB) Stones
(LB) Colwill
(CM) Rice
(CM) Mainoo
(AM) Bellingham
(RSF) Palmer
(CF) Kane
(LSF) Foden

These comments are wild. Adam Wharton has Champions league quality on the ball. We’re comparing mainoo and Wharton as they’re a similar age. They offer completely different skill sets

Why's that guy talking about allowing Rice to push forward? As it is, the CBs don't look all that great, especially now that Maguire, who has usually had pretty good tournaments for England is out. full backs don't look that great either..
And a midfield with perhaps Bellingham, Foden and Rice.. He's still thinking of Rice pushing forward? 😂 With Southgate as manager??

Why is his even a debate ? Kobbie Muad-Dib Mainoo is clear.
