Welcome to Mean's Woodshop! And welcome to the first video of my new basic "Know Your Wood Species" series! The point of this video (and series) is to help inform beginner woodworkers (or those who wish to start woodworking) about different wood species and what to expect when working with them.

In today's video we're looking at the wood that you will more than likely first work with: pine. Pine is a very common, affordable and underrated wood species. Odds are that you're probably no more than 6 feet from some pine right now. Whether it's the stud in your wall, a piece of plywood on your furniture, or some kind of decorative piece in your home, pine is everywhere. It is a very beginner friendly wood to start working with (and smells great too). We discuss the pros and cons of this wood, and projects you might wanna use it for.

If you enjoyed this video, please like it! They say that liking videos tells the infamous YouTube algorithm to suggest it to more people. You should know that if you subscribe, I upload brand new woodworking projects every Friday! And I have follow up videos on those projects every Wednesday. So click the notification bell so you won't miss a video!

Thanks for watching!

If you've actually read the description, leave a comment about how people named Daniel probably don't appreciate pine. When that sexy walnut lumber leaves your ass, pine will still be there for you. Don't forget that, Daniel.

Pine is your friend, Daniel. (I don't know a Daniel but he may need to know it anyways)
Pine is great for the interior projects, or less expensive woodworking Christmas gifts for the co-workers. They all know they are getting a project present.
I also paint it for my custom made Halloween projects that get painted for protection. I"ll post those to the Facebook group page when I get them out closer to October.

Love this series already! I don't know why pine gets a bit of a bad rap. I personally quite like it for certain projects. Looking forward to more of these videos. Very impressed with your level of knowledge!

I love working with pine. If you use a good penetrating stain, even when you do get those dents and dings from use, it give it character lol

Good for painted projects
Another issue with pine is it's lack of stability- cupping twisting

Great video thanks so much for the info. Also I don't know who needs this, but I'd like to bless anyone since you've blessed me. Jesus christ loves you and gave his life on the cross so we could live and have a relationship with god. All we have to do is recognize our sins and ask for forgiveness and believe in jesus christ his son.
