Wife: "Hey dear, have you seen my diamond ring?"

Considering diamonds are formed in heat and pressure I would be surprised if the lava destroyed the diamond. It would be interesting to see if an uncut diamond behaves the same as a cut one. 👍 Good post

THEN WHY DOES DIAMOND GEAR DISAPPEAR IN LAVA

The diamond was bright because the diamond transmits light through it easily and the heat and light emitted under that cooler skim outer upper layer of your molten material is darker, so that layer transmits less light.

Carbon has one of the highest melting points after all. Kind of surprising since it's not a metal.

The research is in! We should be build houses around volcanoes out of diamond

The diamond is „glowing“ due to the very good heat conductivity!

*Notice that the lava cooled into an amorphous glassy rock that shatters easily instead of a crystalline basalt. Every modern lava flow in recorded history has cooled into this same glassy rock, so why did the ancient lava flows cool into actual crystalline basalt?*

Hmm idk if you can do this but can you try burning it without oxygen around it?

I accidentally burnt a diamond in my workplace. We used to anneal them in an over with Ar atmosphere which does not harm the diamonds at all. Once the oven’s program had a glitch which resulted the diamond to be exposed to 1200 C in air over night. I came back to find a small flake of what used to be a ~one carat diamond

Action lab: today I’m putting real diamond into molten lava
Nile red: today I’m putting a real diamond into the core of the sun

Diamond has a melting point higher than tungsten somewhere inbetween 6500 to 7000 degrees F but a lower boiling point, so tungsten has a larger liquid range

Diamond actually burns pretty easily in lava. About as easily as wood, stone, iron or gold. But if you use the diamond to make netherite, then it's completely fireproof

That genuinely shocked me! I expected it to totally burn away.

So in other words, you just got divorced. Sorry to hear that.

Very interesting, there's actually something that lava can't melt 😮

This doesn't work for me when my diamonds fall in lava in MineCraft
