P.S. We lived in Malaysia back when our kids were only 1 and 3 years old. I was always worried sick about snakes and spiders...the garden was routinely treated to keep out those nasty buggers. I do recall a ML work colleague who went out one morning to enjoy a cup of coffee on his back porch...only to be greeted by a fully mature King Cobra resting under his rocking chair. Needless to say, he bolted back inside faster than a speeding bullet. We moved back to Switzerland, after that expat assignment. In CH, the only venomous creatures, aside from a very rare alpine viper, are the bankers!
