The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, successfully apprehended 42 individuals suspected to be bandits and terrorists masquerading as miners of solid minerals.

Commandant Olusola Odumosu disclosed the arrests during a press conference at the command headquarters on Wednesday. The suspects were apprehended in Niger State on Monday, with the operation being a result of credible intelligence and collaboration with the 176 Guards Battalion of the Nigerian Army.

According to Commandant Odumosu, the suspects were intercepted at the forest of Tsaumi Village in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State. Preliminary investigations suggested that they may not be genuine miners but suspected bandits attempting to evade the military operation in Zamfara State. Further questioning revealed their inability to disclose the alleged mining site and company name they claimed to be associated with.

The commandant emphasized that additional investigations unveiled the group's operations across Zamfara, Kogi, and Niger states. The lack of evidence indicating their intention for legitimate mining activities raised suspicions of a potentially sinister agenda.

The NSCDC, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains vigilant to ensure the safety and security of the region.
