BLIND MAN'S BLUFF, The History Channel Documentary,
Stretching from the years immediately after World War II to the spy operations of the Clinton administration, the authors present extraordinary revelations about undersea conflict between the US and British submarines and the Soviet fleet in an unseen intelligence war. The authors reveal stories of adventure, ingenuity, courage and disaster beneath the sea. They show how the American Navy sent submarines wired with self-destruct charges into the heart of Soviet seas to tap crucial underwater telephone cables. They unveil evidence that the Navy's own negligence might have been responsible for the loss of the USS Scorpion, a submarine that disappeared, all hands lost, in the 1970s. They disclose details of the bitter war between the CIA and the Navy and how it threatened to sabotage one of America's most important undersea missions. The tell the story of the audacious attempt to steal a Soviet submarine with the help of eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, and how it was doomed from the start. The authors also reveal how the Navy used the comforting notion of deep-sea rescue vehicles to hide operations that were more James Bond than Jacques Cousteau.

Stars: Roger Mudd, Will Lyman, Christopher Drew

My Dad, Commander Hal Gibbs Brown was the navigator on Halibut in the early 70’s. He was at the Pentagon right before we moved out to California. He was the most honorable patriotic man I have ever known. I am honored to be a submariner’s daughter!

My dad was on the Lapon and Parche. Once the book came out, he bought me a copy and told me of the crazy operations he was on including Lapon’s chase.

That “musty” smell was amine. Remember it well, it was the smell of the boat.

I just read that Roger Mudd (this documentary’s anchor) just died on March 9, 2021. RIP to him and those whose stories he helped tell.

I Read this Book and it's as Good as this a Retired UA 342 Steamfitter Welder (Of course)...I worked out at Mare Island a few HAD TO STOP AT THE HORSE & COW...More than a few Times....Horse & Cow is a Bar in Vallejo Can't Completely remember but I think there's a Half of Submarine Sticking out of the Roof of the Bar... Vallejo was one of the first Towns in California to go Bankrupt... Again I think the Naval Base Mare Island is Shut Down there in Vallejo and about the only other thing that Half-assed keeps the Town going is ExxonMobil....And if it wasn't for The HORSE & COW and the HOOKERS and Crack Dealers there wouldn't be a DAMM thing COVID..
