I’m 52 and just became a lifeguard on Mother’s Day. It finally occurred to me that I didn’t have to be a “swim team” type swimmer. I just needed to be able to pass the tests. There are different types of swimmers, swim team, rescues, snorkeling, and scuba. It was ok that I wasn’t the fastest.

Never have been a lifeguard but when I was a Boy Scout growing up we had to do similar for our swim test for summer camp and I remember it was so hard antically also we weren’t allowed to push off or use goggles or else we automatically got disqualified I am thinking about trying out lifeguarding over the summer at a local amusement park near me

In Ireland it's 400m in less than 8 minutes. Which is FaF! ( beach life guard)

Thank you so much!! I passed my pretest on the first try. Definitely take the 300 m slow and try to find a good pace. A lot of people failed cuz their head kept getting out of the water and because they went too fast on their first couple laps. Recommend doing a breast stroke. I passed without being in the pool for a year or exercising at all. It was a fun experience hehe passed the other exams so im LIFEGUARD CERRIFIED 💪 🎉

I'm going to be doing my Lifeguard test in about a months time, when you say not timed, how not timed it is? I'll be doing the test in a lake rather than a pool so won't be able to take advantage of push offs sadly. Any advice for the 300 yard swim in a lake?
