Lily isn't a little girl at all. Lily is you/us/everyone. When I first heard these lyrics I almost cried because the story isn't about a little girl at all it's about people growing up sheltered and protected from the evil in this world. The people that will destroy your dreams, people that will take advantage of you, and people that will manipulate and abuse you. This "girl" is a representation of us all growing up and wanting to explore and see the world only to try new things and then we get enticed with our relationships and drugs and just anything we all know we shouldn't be doing because we "let them in". This song is so beautifully written because it sounds like a lullaby which is how things always start. So beautiful. Until it all goes horribly wrong somehow and we've somehow let some sort of demon in our lives which slowly starts to take over.
