HowToSailing is not an average sailing channel. We were inspired by the adventurous spirit of, Alex Rust of Chasing Bubbles, who had an endless thirst for travel and experiences. Sailing is a wonderful experience and worth sharing with others, so we aspire to someday begin the adventure. We want others to experience the delight, freedom, and exploration of sailing. It is all about the adventure, the moments that count for a one-of-a-kind experience. The excitement of traveling to a new location is riveting and represents the worth of cruising life as adventure awaits among every wave.

We want to share our passion for sailing with others and allow those who have a love for the sea to experience the freedom of sailing, reaching goals, and making memories in the miles of water we pass through. HowToSailing desires to introduce amateur sailors and travelers alike who would otherwise not be able to sail or experience being on a sailboat to share our adventures as a group and create meaningful memories unified by the power of the sea. I appreciate the value and perspective given. There are big considerations and compromises to weigh. I have read and dreamed cruising since my mid twenties. I got to sail the Herb Payson's Sea Foam across Juan de Fuca and I never forgot how much I love to go cruising. Now in my late 40's I have a chance to sell my home and live the dream. I want to play in the Puget Sound for a year then go coastal with ambitions to cross the Pacific. My thoughts have been on a full keel or modified full keel boat. I think budget and capability will be foremost in this decision. I really think you can't do enough research but at some point you just have to make the jump/leap into it and DO IT!

I see myself in a center cockpit Hunter with a huge aft stateroom! Docked at my local marina, and the only big sea’s I’ll endure is the wake of an inconsiderate powerboat as he motors past my dock space.. lol 😂

Good advice on your channel. You suggest buying a coastal cruiser and some practise first but if blue water sailing is the ultimate goal, then wouldn't buying a true blue water boat be a better choice? Or is a blue water boat more difficult to handle in coastal waters?
