As always, thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Two things though.
1. Was really Knoppix the first liveCD? I thought that Yggdrasil was first but that Knoppix was the first that people actually cared about.
2. Just to clarify one thing more: liveCDs work on Mac too. On older Macs you must be sure that it's a PPC liveCD though.

Yes, you can. You could also install the OS on a USB-stick. It would grant a better performance, bigger space to work with and whenever you boot-down your computer, you're files won't get deleted. Also you'll be able to plug-in your USB stick in any machine and have your own full OS right there to work on. This only works with Linux, though. (And maybe FreeBSD)

Good video. He explained the processes and methods pretty clearly. I can understand when someone isn't using Linux software calls it crap. I'd counter by saying explore LibreOffice and other open-source alternatives, as snap judgements are usually made by the uninformed. The content is correct and it was entertaining.

With Windows 8 and UEFI secure boot, it can render LiveCD's unusuable though. Waiting to see how this issue will be dealt with.

ubuntu OS can be acquired for free, from the ubuntu website. You have to have a CD burner ( for versions 12.04 and earlier ) and a dvd burner for 12.10 ( since the file is more then an average CD blank media disc). You can download the ISO file there and burn it using a DVD burning software like ISO burn or something similar.

Law enforcement wouldn't be the major issue... in states such as mine, Maryland, we are called "at will" employment. This means anyone can be fired at any time for any reason. (that's not "prejudiced")... So would an employer risk the chance that their employees are looking at nasty stuff on company time, with a company computer? Nope... fire the guy and move on...

It is the same version of Linux he used. Release ( 12.XX, 11.XX ) is the version of it specifically ( like you would see win7 or win8 as a version/release) It will allow you to access files on a computer with windows installed on it as shown, by choosing to " Try Ubuntu" and not install. As far as leaving no trace I cannot confirm nor deny this.

That's what I used to make my LiveUSB to test out Ubuntu and Linux Mint 14, and I loved Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon, it ran better than Ubuntu did, and it works with Ubuntu programs because it's based on the Ubuntu kernal

yes you can boot your mac up from a Live Cd of linux. you maby have to go in to bios and change wich device it boots from. and change it to cd or USb depending on what you have put the live cd on

Encrypt the disk. Bitlocker is by Microsoft and requires you have a specific version of Windows 7 so you can use Truecrypt instead, open source, free, quality and no hidden back doors so allow authorities a way in.

for your internet problem you need to install a driver for your modem, look in the web for drivers for your modem model on ubuntu, and for video and audio problem you need to install codecs once you get the internet look for them in the ubuntu software centre i think they are called griffins or something like that, or just let the video or audio players download them for you

On a mac, all you do is hold down 'C' when it is booting up (CD has to be inside already) and it will boot from the CD

'KonBoot' is very good windows based Live CD, it can also be mounted onto a usb stick & hard drive
