Traditionally Mathematics and Physics offer profoundly different approaches to truth. The absolute truth of mathematical laws provide inspiration to unravelling the laws of universe - but nature, through experimentation, has the last word. Yet from quantum mechanics to string theory, mathematics has played a fundamental role in revealing the deeper truths of the universe. The Simons Center for Geometry and Physics has its own faculty carrying out research in topics at the intersection between mathematics and physics, with near complete freedom. No administration, just contemplation. Providing a place where physicists and mathematicians can meet to discuss topics of common interest, the Center is a fertile ground for the generation of fundamentally new science.
