We don’t have a choice what we believe, we either do or we don’t. Moving away from belief which is ‘forced’ upon us is, I believe, healthy, because we will either return to it and believe it ourselves or discover something else. Either way it’s a win

I'm a muslim.. but i wouldn't say I'm a real muslim since I've done most of the forbidden things.. in my case, I'm too curious for my own sake.. i questioned a lot of things especially about religions since i could remember.. my family was weirded out with me because I'd ask questions then I'd questioned or counter the answers..my therapist told me that I'm more logical than my peers even to the point that I'd intellectualize my emotions instead of expressing it, i even see myself objectively..the thing is, i wasn't influenced by anyone or by entertainment since we grew up in poverty and my family and relatives are all conservatives except one of my aunt whom i got close to during my teenage years due to that sides of ours that we have to keep low-key..

It's not like we even have the choice to choose, we were born with the 'title' ..

Honestly I'm at that point where I don't want to think about religions anymore, I'm exhausted, i just wanna live, that's all.. what's I'm not happy with is the fact that i cannot change my religion according to my country laws..living a double life is the only choice for us here

That also isn’t how ODD works. It is stuff like “not being able to do the dishes because you were asked and feel forced into a situation that robs you of your choice” not something like “being a part of the culture/religion you were raised around.”

I had ADHD and ODD as a child, and interestingly enough, that was one of the reasons I rebelled against Islam and one of the main influences in my “deconstruction.” I was also always very guilty about this and felt a lot of shame in disobeying Allah, so I was quite relieved in a way when I came to the realization that he doesn’t exist. Even though I became very terrified that annihilation is the only thing (that we can logically assume is) waiting after death. Heaven never sounded particularly appealing to me in the first place, but annihilation is undoubtedly worse.

Totally agree with your view on Islam on control, coercion, and punishment. Left it couple of years ago and have never felt this free. I believe force is not necessary to keep people in religion.

Having a disorder wouldn't make you wrong either. Religion has no authority over the individual. People simply assume dictatorial rules and roles in error.

My pastor sabotaged every job application I used him as a reference on until I got smart and tried not doing that. He knew the owner and still tried. First job I got. Rough time in my life.

I wish I can learn how to be as smart as you. The way you process things and relay your thoughts is so impressive

The gaslighting from people who can't comprehend why you left that cult is astounding!

Yeah, that's a really good point.
To me the commenter's question implicitly states that leaving a religion is an act of rebellion against that religion.
But how can that be if you don't believe in that religion anymore?
Thats not rebellion, it's just a different perspective.

"I'm going to create the conditions that would make it so that some of the beings, in which I want them to worship me will naturally be rebellious against me and that there is nothing they can do to curb that."

Same with Adam and Eve too. If God is to be believed as all powerful, he has every single kind of human tuning at his disposal. If he's sad that a creation does not like him, it's really his own fault. Free will isn't a defense, because it's clear we don't have as much free will, mental capacity and capability as God, which shows a God that is willing to control just how much free will we can have.

Wow so you're going to blame people for being rebellious and disrespectful instead of addressing the fact that imaginary friends are not Great strategy

Guess what's based on punishment? The law. So are you going to rebel? There has to be punishment because there are evil people and some people won't do good until they are punished. Very simple and logical.
