San Martin SN008 VS Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue: What The Tudor Black Bay Pro SHOULD Have Been?

As much as I love my Tudor Black Bay Pro, when it was first announced I wasn’t expecting for it to be an Explorer II homage. What I was expecting was a beefed up, modern, tool watch version of the ever popular Black Bay 58. Basically I was expecting it to be like the San Martin SN008-G. Now that one of AliExpress’ big sales is upon us on June 27th, I decided to take a look at the San Martin because while it is very much based off of the BB58, it is not a clomage. Pretty much every aspect of it has been tweaked in order to give it a very different experience on the wrist.

Thankfully I have owned the Black Bay 58 Blue for 2 years so I was able to see how different the experience of the San Martin is comparatively. So in this video I go over what the San Martin SN008 is really like on the wrist and how the different elements of the watch are different to the Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue. In short, when I see the San Martin on my wrist I do not think to myself “oh this is just a BB58, except not.” I see a watch that is a modern tool version of the vintage inspired BB58. Take a look and see for yourself!

AWESOME STUFF- I own and love every product listed so I want to spread the love!

I think I'm longing for a Tudor submariner to slot in between the Pelagos and the BB58😂

Your comparaison videos are always great man and well done👌 !
I’ve had the San Martin for over a year now (The black gilt version), because the BB58 was and is always my grail watch. You are absolutely right, the SM feels and wears bigger, although feels great on the wrist, and is very thin. It’s weird that now my favourite dimensions for a watch (38/39) looks and feels small on my wrist because of getting used to the SM haha.
I recently got the SNE569, so hopefully I’ll get back to loving smaller size watches again.

So, how do you think makes the closest homage to the BB58?

If they brushed the ceramic bezel it would be an absolute winner!

Good review
Just got the V3. What I like is that homages have some difference from the original or else they just seem like a cheap clone.

I really hate that you don’t enjoy your BB58. I have the exact same one as you (navy) and I absolutely love it. I actually wore it to church today 😂. I love how modern it has made a more vintage style watch. My favorite style of watches are divers, but (maybe minority here) I like some of the “dressier” divers and actually like some of the polished surfaces. Such as my Longines hydroconquest (gray ceramic), it has polished middle links. I think it allows me to dress up a watch a little more, especially for my profession and the my personal style. If I didn’t already have a BB58, I’d be hitting you up for yours! Haha!

For anyone interested, San Martin are bringing out a 38.5mm version of the BB58 next month which looks even better than this one

My biggest problem with the San Martin is the bezel. It needs to be aluminum not ceramic. I think Pagani Design did a much better job with their watches.

Do you think it’s possible to change out the bezel and bezel insert in the San Martin? I wonder how similar it would wear if I could find a aftermarket bezel and insert that could almost match the bb58

Will the bracelet on the SM fit the BB58?

The San Martin BB58 looks “off” somehow. This isn’t the case with some of their other watches, such as their 62MAS clone. Modernizing some of the elements and beefing up the diameter looks incongruous with what is still a vintage design at its core. The ceramic bezel, in particular, looks too plastic-y in a certain light and catches glare far too much in others. As a whole, the SM appears disjointed compared the more cohesive original Tudor BB58.
