While there are advantages and disadvantages to each platform, I stress the importance of selecting a system that best meets your needs.

When my employer ditched Oracle for SQL Server my life suddenly became happier.

Having been a business intelligence consultant since 2012 I've seen a wide variety of database implementations. I'm surprised that postgress is so consistently low, I thought it had a higher adoption rate. And ugh, I hate supporting oracle dbs.

Access fits in about where Redis is (but some no longer consider it an "active" database).
This list also doesn't include ERP Systems, which are the true heavyweights in enterprise wide solutions.

While it is interesting to see Splunk on a list of "most popular databases"

I feel this is misleading...

For one, I don't see hadoop on the list.

Ignoring that- this is a video showing...

Relational databases (sql, oracle, etc...)

Hadoop-like big-data databases (Splunk, Hadoop, ElasticSearch, etc...)

Time-Series Databases (InfluxDB, Splunk, etc...)

Document Storage databases (Mongo)

Cache Providers (Redis)

Despite similarities, many of these do NOT belong in the same category to be compared together.

For example- you are never going to use splunk or hadoop to manage your ERP system, or customer billing system. For those use-cases, you want a traditional ACID-compliant relational database.

You are not going to shove your log files, and access data into a traditional relational database. While- you can, the amount of time required to implement wouldn't be worth it.

Each of these tools, has a specific purpose. If I saw a video comparing splunk against other LIKE products, I would be more interested. However- it is an apples to oranges comparison.

What's the methodology ? What definition of "popular" are you aiming for ? For databases this makes a huge difference in the ranking. For example, using sources like stackoverflow developer survey or google trends, Oracle is pretty far down and Postgresql has a comfortable second place. Or if you counted active installations, sqlite would probably trump everything else on this list...

I do like these ranking-over-time videos, but the lack of sources/methodology is frustrating.

How interesting please mention this on your every video!!! very very insane!

What is the TOPDB index ?
The TOPDB Top Database Index is created by analyzing how often databases are searched on Google : the more an Database is searched, the more popular the Database is assumed to be. The raw data comes from Google Trends.

I think I never did anything outside MySQL and Postgres, maybe I should study more of the no-sql ones.

Well, then the title should be "The Most Popular Database Searches", which could mean anything, such as 'Oracle is so damn difficult to use' or 'Postgresql just works and I never need to search'. sqlite.org claims "SQLite is the most used database engine in the world" and given it's ubiquity in phones and industrial applications, I don't think the little 2.6% Sqlite bar here represents reality. The StackOverflow developer survey (for popular databases) also turns the metrics reperesented in this video completely upside down...
