With all the loose rock on the surface of his gravel driveway, I thought we were going to have to bring in thousands of dollars in gravel for his 1,500 foot driveway. Then I found crusher, and knew that we could use the existing crusher to lock the 57 gravel together, giving him a durable far more impervious gravel driveway!

I don't know how gravel driveway tips landed in my algorithm, but it's not as boring as I thought it'd be lol

Bad news is you’re bring up the dust (fines) then when it’s wet you get slop on your vehicle and shoes. Then when it dry you get dust following you down your driveway and gets all over your vehicle.
Leave the clean stone on top.

Put light layer crushed smaller stone on top. Don't mess up base layer! It's packed tight.

That's true except when it gets wet you track all the slop in your house.
You always want to cap your base off with 57's or 8's .
You use 617 or 304 on your base preferably roll it then cap off with your 57's
I have probly tailgated more stone backwards than most people have even hauled

We use 3/4” road crush. It’s got your 3/4” jagged aggregate, sand and other fines etc. once you lay that down in 4-6” lifts compacted it’s makes a good road base

Do you have a materials list by chance? I’m going with your idea for the base and I’m assuming the tiber was 6x6 treated lumber. Aside from crushed run, what was the original base (before the sand) you had planned to use?

Much respect to you going this route. I thought it was incredibly brilliant and creative.

Do you all have any experience with the gravel driveway grids, or some may call them permeable pavers? I have a fairly steep gravel driveway at my house that requires constant raking due to rain washing and vehicles spinning it up. I am considering having a gravel driveway grid installed as it seems like it would last much longer with less maintenance. What are your thoughts?

What type of equipment is used when you have a gravel driveway and every few years you put new gravel on it so there is a ton of gravel underneath all of the dirt that has come up but we want to have it turned up so that all the old gravel from underneath can be brought back up to the top. Is that called a gravel Rake or a rock rake or what is used to do this?
Thanks!

Get road base and compact it, you should be good

I hate when people put “clean” rock down for driveways. Drives me nuts lol. I always sell them 3/4” to 1.25” roadstone

Why not just compact the larger angular rock to lock it in place? Helps with rain and keep mud from percolating up.

The fine will settle at the bottom so if you do this, expect to do it every other year

Everybody knows you'd get aggregate with driveways with dust to hold it together

I live in MA. About to make a small parking spot for my wife. What’s the best type of stone/ method. I never thought of this. I would have just bought what you called the 57 and put a couple inches of that down. Thanks.
