On the occasion of the 61st Session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), Professor Chris Beyrer (Desmond M. Tutu Professor in Public Health and Human Rights; Associate Director, Johns Hopkins University Center for AIDS Research; Immediate Past President, International AIDS Society) delivered a scientific statement at the plenary, stressing that HIV prevention and treatment for people who use drugs play an essential role in saving lives and in epidemic control. People who use drugs have been shown to be highly interested in utilising HIV and Hepatitis C prevention and treatment services when offered in safety and dignity.
