King Constantine I and Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos although cooperating during the Balkan Wars came to a major disagreement during WW1 concerning the entry of the Kingdom of Greece into the war. However, despite their differences, both men were devoted to and connected with the realisation of the "Megali Idea", pursuing it with their own ways. Unfortunately for them, their rivalry had disastrous effects for the country, thus leaving "Megali Idea" unfulfilled to this day.
The Megali Idea is a nationalist and irredentist concept that expresses the goal of reviving the Byzantine Empire by establishing a Greek state, which would include the large Greek populations that were still under Ottoman rule after the end of the Greek War of Independence and all the regions that had large Greek populations.
