US Ranger rebirth
The idea for the U.S. Army Rangers was inspired by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's idea for what he called a "butcher_and bolt" force - small eams that would conduct surprise attacks, kill or destroy key enemy targets, and escape undetected. The Commandos, as these British units were called, conducted high-profile_and daring raids into occupied Europe from 1940 to the end of the war. Their sudden and shocking assaults along the French and Norwegian coastlines provided a poost in British morale during the dark early days of the war.
In spring 1942, Gen. George C. Marshall, he U.S. Army's chief of staff, agreed to send a small_ detachment of Americans to train with the British commandos to gain combat experience. These American troops were then supposed to be sent to units across the United States rapidly growing army to share their expertise as new recruits prepared to go to war.
Gen. Lucian Truscott Jr., who had made the initial pitch to Marshall, believed the term "commando" was too British and instead argued that these men should be called Rangers." Truscott recalled the tenacity, flexibility and aggressive nature of colonial forces like Rogers' Rangers, famous for daring raids during the French and Indian War in the 1750s and 1760s. Truscott believed that "few words have a more glamorous
connotation in American military history." than the word "ranger."
The lst Ranger Battalion was trained by the British _Commandos. A select few of them joined the British and Canadians in an August 1942 raid across the English Channel into Dieppe, France, which resulted in catastrophic losses and hard-learned lessons for the eventual landings at Normandy. Those Rangers were the first U.S. troops to fight in Europe during World War I.

So true! It was literally a giant game of Simon says but Simon can beat you senseless or work you dead. Our class was first class ever to have over 70 soldiers I believe. We started with 140. They literally said we can’t train all of you properly so we must “thin the herd”. They added an extra week of hell til enough people quit they could train us. We graduated only 45 at the end that class. It was rough.

There were guys running RIP back then that should have been locked up. I know one who was for life for murder/rape. I was just in Savannah on the waterfront first time since 2005 and before that it was 1985-86.. Love that place. But I recalled a time when two ranger E-6’s pulled up top to park and go down the antique stairs to drink in their Ranger Bar. His buddy said that’s a no parking sign bro then bang bang bang out came the pistol and made that sign a cheese grater. Things like that happened all the time. Today they’d commit you to an insane asylum for the things that went on. I was in Puyallup/Tacoma during the big Hill Top Crip Ranger shoot out episode. Went to church a few blocks away. It was crazy time compared to today. Today people fear things I just laugh. They just don’t know America used to be far worse. It was the Wild West show.

Not as cool as old school RIP but I went to army warrant officer course and day 1 was a smoke fest. Dude in the class gave out which was a good dude and got us all a break. That dude that I cannot remember is among the best dudes I've ever served with.

Not one person has called me not one person has come to my house why they don't want to hear my story just because somebody says something doesn't make it true. You had a bunch of interesting videos when this first started anybody can do the research if they take the time

I went to Panama for jungle training in 1969. My company commander in Vietnam was Captain Newman at that time. He retired a full bird colonel and I’m not sure, he may have been your commander in Panama.because he was running the jungle training in Panama in the 90s I was in the 101st airborne division 2/501st infantry(Geronimo)

I think it was the 3 weeks of hold-over, where they try to weed you out before you start RIP. They have more time to PT you. When the rest of the class arrived, the remaining hold-overs were in pretty good shape.

That heat creeps up on you fast, I had just torn my patellar tendon and for about 3 months I was inside bc it was summer and I had a leg cast, but once 8th grade started I had gym except all I could do was stand and the first day I got so hot I passed out on crutches and the football coaches were cool with it and one just to went to get a wheel chair while everyone else thought I dropped dead or got shot😂
