Her bank told her twice that the check was good. They should cover her losses.

I agree that the bank is responsible for this money. They assured her the check was good . Disclose the bank

In the case, the bank is to blame for their garbage advice. Never refund a check until the money is fully cleared. Period.

Bank should absolutely stand by their word and take responsibility regardless if it were counterfeit

I'm getting pretty sick of people scamming people instead of getting jobs.

This is less of a story about someone that was scammed and more about how your bank will do nothing to protect you.

I’m confused as to why the bank isn’t covering this

Instant red flag would have been the check

If that many people have been scammed from one stolen set of checks, why hasn’t the bank flagged and cancelled all of the checks, rendering every check worthless for deposit and cashing? I once had a book of business checks delivered to the wrong address yet someone took them and even signed for the delivery of them. I cancelled ALL of the checks so that none would be accepted by any bank. I changed the information on the new set of checks, replaced new routing numbers and even bought a different color and design. It was literally a whole new account. Btw, after inspecting the checks, the idiot that received them threw them out instead of delivering them to my business directly across the street. People are nasty, insensitive and dumb.

This is sad! These are honest hardworking people who drives our economy. Scammers need harsh punishments!

I hope people come out and buy her cupcakes. If I still lived in L.A., I'd be there at opening time in the morning.

Received a check by Priority Mail... That didn't set off any red flags?!

The counterfeit check scam costed me a bank account with a bank that never wants to do business with me again. That bank is Wells Fartgo, they'll never get my business again even if they wanted my business

The bank said that it was a good check so the BANK should be held accountable and pay this woman the full amount of the check

I thought about things like this a long time ago, if I were a pizza parlor, cake shop, or something similar and someone placed an order like that they would need to pay it in cash in full before any work starts.

At least she was smart enough to not refund them any money. I heard of another small business falling victim for the same fake check scam; and unlike this lady, actually cut the scammers a check to refund the canceled portion of the order.

OMG!!!! Literally this same exact thing happened to me & my husband. We got scammed on Craigslist about 5 years ago. We were selling something. The buyer wanted to pay by check. Our bank said the check looked "ok" & it eventually cleared. Before we sent the buyer our item he bought, our bank contacted us & told us something was wrong. Turned out the check was stolen. Thankfully we hadn't sent off the item by the time the bank notified us. We had to pay the bank back but the scammer got NOTHING out of us.
