EU proposes new rules for radioactive waste disposal

Gunther Oettinger, the European Commissioner in charge of Energy, on Wednesday announced a new EU proposal on the disposal of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. The proposal will be one of the key priorities for the Hungarian EU presidency during the first half of 2011.

It may be a good idea to have EU legislation in this area.
Otherwise countries tend to store their wastes near the border of their neighbours or even to attract capital by offering lower standards.
