Dragon Fruit Harvest with Andre the Farmer

We're about to harvest a dragon fruit. Normally, I'd grow it with a trellis, but I wondered if it could be grown downward instead of upward. Turns out, it works! They'll grow straight down and still produce fruit. This one looks ready—the spikes come off easily, and it's very yellow. We'll harvest it by cutting this branch tip. Let's head inside and taste it!

Never had it, seems like such a pain to grow. I don’t even like messing with tomatoes lol I just do hot peppers because they’re so easy.

Love the garden. I would just recommend not let the fruit drop to the ground in most cases. Reason being that critters will normally visit the garden at night to eat of the fruits and vegetables. Animals will urinate and defecate as they eat leaving contaminants at the base. This is the reason fruit farmers will tell you to leave the fallen fruit on the ground. I don’t think it’s a problem in cacti fruit but I’m not familiar with them.

When I go to buy one, how do I know when it’s ripe?
