regarding problem b, the voltage of capacitor, I believe, goes higher and higher because whenever the switch in series with C gets on the cap will absorb the energy stored in magnetizing inductor and the cap voltage will not reach to a steady state. to solve this issue there has to be a resistor in parallel to the cap to desipate energy,
