In Excel, charts and graphs represent data in graphical format. Line charts can display continuous data over time, set against a common scale, and are therefore ideal for showing trends in data at equal intervals or over time. In a line chart, category data is distributed evenly along the horizontal axis, and all value data is distributed evenly along the vertical axis. A line chart is a type of chart used to show information that changes over time. Line charts are created by plotting a series of several points and connecting them with a straight line. Line charts are used to track changes over short and long periods. Use the Select Data Source dialog box to edit the data in your series or rearrange them on your chart. You can also add a data series or remove them in this dialog box by clicking Add or Remove. For a graph to be called a line graph, there are 5 main characteristics it must possess. These 5 main features are the title, scale, points, labels, and line. Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element and select Data Labels, and then select a location for the data label option. Note: The options will differ depending on your chart type. If you want to show your data label inside a text bubble shape, click Data Callout.
