I randomly learned this on the ODR as a casual winter skater.. Man it's so fun. You explode so quick into a backward skate and you almost go waaay too fast if you do more than a few strides

Well, this "outside edge kick" is almost completely ignored in the video, but it is equally important, if not the most important element of the backward cross-over. It absolutely should not be taught as a "kick", but as a fully controlled, (heel) loaded, strong outside edge stroke
