Sorry about the general sickness in the video, but this is my translation of the Afrikaans song by Bok van Blerk.
I don't own the original but this is my cover.

"Khakis" refers to the British.

I know some of the translation is incorrect so please accept my apologies.

Feel free to support me on Patreon and I'll write a song about you:

My one and only child is half South African, I wish her mom was still around to teach her more of her heritage, The boer blood runs thick in her blood.

Beautiful and absolutely haunting version of the original. The downtempo adds to the sadness and desperation of the Boers. I'm in tears. Thank you!

Nicely done. Gave me goose bumps. Choked me up a bit. My Great Grandmother was born in a concentration camp and and her brother died there. He was four.

You have to admire the Boer Commandos who put-up such a formidable fight against the odds. If you are interested in the history of the second Boer War, then I strongly recommend the book "Commando" by Denys Reiz, which is a true soldier's story from a brave, young Boer, who faced vicious fighting, real hardship and amazing adventures.

Absolutely beautiful, gave me goosebumps all over

The tone in which you sing it also feels fitting, it's grim, yet deeply emotional, just as the war was, it provides a beautiful contrast to van blerk's tone, which has always given me the feeling of a hardend soldier, trying to maintain a facade of courage

I am English, the love of my life is Afrikaans. Before I met her, I had no understanding of how deep and passionate the Afrikaner heart is. Bok Van Blerk wrote a very powerful song that resonates so very deeply with the Boers. Your version is excellent and does credit to the original. Thank you.

Can I ask why you chose De La Rey by Bok Van Blerk? Weereens baie dankie.

Oh, well done! Thank you, you’ve done beautifully. Always a struggle to share bits of yourself with a partner who doesn’t understand your language and don’t know your history. I absolutely love your artistic expression of the song.
