The WDT is an absolute god send to the espresso enthusiast. It can be as cheap as a few bucks if you want to make it yourself, doesn’t break, makes a significant difference, and it’s just glorious.

Just got my first one a few weeks back, genuinely amazed at the difference it made (and for filter too!). I changed to a Niche Zero a few months back from a Baratza Sette.

I think due to the portafilter being placed on the Sette's arms and the grinds going right into the portafilter, it did a good job of breaking up clumps purely by the vibrations.

By comparison I use the dosing cup on the Niche and I think there was a lot more clumping as a result.

But yeah, awesome little tool!

just got my first real wdt for my home bar. I own a cafe, but we just use a distributer and tamper. I find shots with the wdt to have more clarity.

I was lazy and got a palm tamper that also has a distributor on the other side of it. I wonder if this is good enough, or is there some advantage to having the tamper and distributor as separate tools? Some people claim wedge distributors aren’t good enough, but I look at these thigs with needles and they seem super flimsy like they would bend or break over time, and I prefer durable tools, because 4 or 5 espressos per day is standard for me here. Just too many different tool options. Good stuff as always, the coffee community always has helpful content.

Do you have a recommended product link? I've seen a ton of these on amazon and found them to be quite bad in general (quality wise etc)
