I have made few tasks in SOAP service and use them in my projects here and there. Like sending text messages or emails. I still use them in my Xamarin applications. But overall REST api approach is more flexible for many project types.

Had a project with SOAP that we migrated to a REST Json interface. Though it is really not that nice to use my collegue mentioned that SOAP might be better to validate 🤔
