Met Cozy (and his Dad), Newcastle City Hall.

Was great to have some time with Cozy, then met his Dad, who introduced me to Richie and I got his autograph.

Next night, met Richie again, and he remembered me. We had a discussion about Richie smashing his guitars (as he didn't the previous night).

2nd night he obliterated one of his Strats.

Memories like that are priceless.

Cozy is one of the finest drummers in the history of Rock n Roll. There was nothing he couldn’t play with style and power.

Also, Cozy's work on Stargazer and Michael Schenker's Live at Budokan just slayed me, and I'm a guitarist :)

Just for the intro to Stargazer has he earned his hero status

Colin "Cozy" Powell!
Or as I always call him "God"!
He was my idol growing up n I got to see him Live 3 times; twice with Black Sabbath n once with Peter Green where Cozy played "Albatross" with just his left hand, using his right on the cymbals when needed!
Legend!
🤘🏻

Cozy was a major inspiration as a drummer. He played with all the biggest bands. He was tight, steady and hard hitting. Always locket in the pocket. And then he had his own solo records going on, that were major hits, at least i Europe. For me his work with Ritchies Rainbow and Black Sabbath stands out, but again he played with so many. Drum solos can be a bit boring but Cozy elevated it to include classical, Beethoven-like, music and light shows etc. RIP Cozy !

I've said this before on other Cozy vids but his intro on Rainbow's Lost in Hollywood from the Down to Earth album is awesome. Some other recordings of this exist but the one on Down to Earth is in a class of its own.

Losing Cozy Powell was awful I often listen to MSG taking more time listening to Cozy’s drumming than Michael’s guitar playing, , Rest Well Cozy ..

Cozy Powell was a true professional. I first became aware of him through the Jeff Beck group on the Rough and Ready album in 1971. His given name was Colin Trevor Flooks so it's obvious why he changed his name to something more memorable. Apparently he named himself after the great Jazz Drummer Cozy Cole.

Cozy was just so invisible, but without him all the wheels would fall off. solid, hard hitter that drove everything he played. So underrated .. True legend, monster player. Such a loss…. Glad to hear people talking about him and his playing. One of the greatest by far …
