On a slightly different tangent related to both Jack The Ripper and history in general, its surreal to think that Winston Churchill was 14 years old when the Ripper murders took place, and he lived long enough to hear the Beatles.

As someone who teaches history himself, let me applaud this clear demonstration of how historiography is the narrow pillar upon which all non-archeological history is built. This is why historians rarely speak in absolute terms. Because contemporary historical views are almost always best described as ‘the best we know at present’.

No record o a shawl at the murder site. No record of the PC at the murder site. No chain of custody for the shawl. No semen found at any other Ripper site. No release of the DNA results. NO CASE.
It's also been said the the "shawl" was more likely to be a table covering. Even if it was a shawl it's the kind of thing that would have been sold or pawned by Eddowes as being relatively valuable.

Thank you VTH, I've been a fan of your channel for a long time and I loved your Lemmino video with Jack The Ripper. I literally just finished a 10 page High School research paper over the entire case and I knew from my own research that Russell Edwards was a joke. Terry Jones tested this shawl 15 years ago and conclusively proved the killer was a sheep.

I was very skeptical when I saw the headlines. I am glad you addressed this. I read Patrica Cornwell's book and had believed it until I did some more research. I heard someone else say the mitochondrial DNA would only rule out suspects, not prove someone did it.

Russel Edwards just so happens to find the answer to the question he was looking for. He's taking pages out of regions playbook like when they go looking for the arc.

There is an excellent book written back in 1975 on the case by former Scotland Yard detective, Donald Rumbelow The most memorable part of his book to me was the first 2 chapters that covered what life was like in East London for the majority of people at that time. Those folks had very hard and often brief lives. I think there should be more focus on the victims than the killer.

This has got to be at least the fifth Jack the Ripper they’ve “identified”.

One thing not touched upon is that, the victim was a part time sex worker. It isn’t at all surprising that someone else’s DNA was on her shawl.
Whether it was her murderer ‘s DNA isn’t clear at all. It could simply be the DNA of a client.

DNA suggests brown hair, brown eyes... Well that narrows it down, not like a lot of people have those features
