Raging Bull (1980) - Home videos montage scene [1080]

Martin Scorsese's early boxing film makes excellent use of black and white, except for this montage which combines La Motta home videos with his mid-career fights. There is no original score in the film, and Scorcese used just three opera pieces by Pietro Mascagni. This one is a 1966 recording of 'Barcarolle' from 'Silvano', performed by the Orchestra Of Bologna Municipal Theatre, conducted by Arturo Basile.

Starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Cathy Moriarty and Frank Vincent. Based on the book by Jake LaMotta, edited by Thelma Schoonmaker and directed by Martin Scorsese.

Scorsese said himself, this was his favorite part of the film. The beauty of this scene, is how it's juxtaposed with the rest of the film. This montage shows what Jake's life should have been like, and that's what makes it so beautiful.

This scene is going to hit different when all these actors are gone

everyone says this is what his life "should have been like, " but I think it's interesting the way the happy good times are cut together with la Motta's most crushing victories. his good times, his familial and material wealth, are paid for with violence.

Scorsese let the crew film these 16mm shots as the cameramen were too skilled and framed every shot perfectly when he wanted it to be natural. He personally took the film and roughed it up with a wire coat hanger to make it more scratchy also.

This is the old school equivalent of scrolling through old photos of when you were happy while you are in the present being sad.

Perfect film.Masterclass in acting, directing, editing and cinematography. The music shows the story for what it is: operatic tragedy.

what a sad, beautiful scene. one of my favorites. always evokes a sense of nostalgia and of learning to enjoy the present because one never knows the arc of our fates.

Notice how after Vicki kids around and pushes Jake in the water, he can't leave it alone, so he goes and grabs her and throws her in? Can't let her get away with making a fool of him.

This man fought for his pride. But realized pride was the whole illusion. Crying helped him more than a fight could ever help. BRAVO. This movie is a masterpiece because it shows how someone can even kill themselves over pride. In the long run forsure, a real raging bull
