The Ultimate Iceland Itinerary

Whether you are going to Iceland for your first time or your third, you can’t miss the Southern area of the country which is known for waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, dramatic landscapes and just epic adventures!

Here is the ultimate 7 day itinerary in South Iceland:

Day 1: Start the trip off with a soak in the iconic Blue Lagoon first thing in the morning. Then spend a few hours in the afternoon exploring the charming city of Reykjavik by electric scooter before heading south towards Selfoss, stopping at Kerid crater for a quick hike. Stay near Selfoss.

Day 2: All day hike in Landmannalaugar (we recommend going with a guide unless you have a 4X4 drive car to get there). This hike is about 6 miles RT and covers some unique terrain. Finish off the hike at the hot springs right on the river! Stay in Selfoss.

Day 3: Visit the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss, Gljufrabui, Skogafoss, and Kvernufoss (in that order). After the falls, drive to the town of Vik and go horseback riding on the black sand beach with @arcticadventures. Stay in Vik.

Day 4: Head to Reynisfjara Beach first thing in the morning. Then go to Dyrholaey which boasts dramatic views and if you’re there in the Summer, you’ll see puffins! In the afternoon, head to Fjadrargljufur Canyon and do a short hike along the rim of this breathtaking canyon. Stay near Kalfafell.

Day 6: Drive to Hofn and go to the stunning Stokknes beach. Then in the afternoon, start heading back towards Reykjavik, stopping at Mulagljufur Canyon for a 4 mile RT hike to the most amazing canyon with waterfalls.

Day 7: Continue the drive to Reykjavik, with a pit stop to snorkel at Silfra Fissure in the Golden Circle. Then finish the trip at the Sky Lagoon in Reykjavik at sunset. Make sure to get the 7 step ritual!
