The progression of this software is beautiful to see. I remember using Audacity to record a dry bass recording for my high school jazz band. Now I could practically use it as my main DAW. Once this gets fully-fledged MIDI support—perhaps Musescore file import integration?—Audacity could become a free one-stop shop for all things composition, mixing and sharing.

Way back in 2007 I recorded an audio book with Audacity using my Mac to record, no mic. I was traveling through S. America in an ex-police surveillance van, so fully carpeted on all sides. It was my mobile studio. Great times. Now I'm finishing my first film. I'd been dragging my feet on the narration, but began yesterday using an old mic and a newer Mac! Audacity keeps getting better and much closer to modern DAW's including Ableton Live and others... nice update including using VSTs and the master effects channel which works in real-time.

I'm a small-time creator that had no money to even start, just used an old Blue Yeti my friend passed down to me and was preparing to use... whatever free recording software came with Windows... until I found Audacity.
This was YEARS ago now, and even though my creations never really got me anywhere, Audacity still has a strong hold in my hobbies and has taught me boatloads about recording and sound mixing just by using the program.

From the bottom of my broke little heart, thank you for making this free to use. I'm not in as dire straits as I was years ago, and technically can afford a studio program, but honestly, why would I? I have everything my script-reading little heart needs right here. I'd much rather support Audacity and its accessibility for all as well as its features. This is the future for creativity I want to see: Free resources and tools, zero gatekeeping, no obstacles like subscription fees or high costs, just good quality mediums, ready and available for anyone to use.

I've been using Audacity since 2008ish maybe earlier. And although the recording is very choppy (as I'm not an expert and all i really do is record the music and do only minimal fixing if need be) I was always happy with the outcome. I strayed away for a few years but I was super happy to see Audacity was still a thing so quickly got back to using you guys! Same program, and same satisfying outcomes. Please keep up the good work fellas!

I've been using Audacity since 2005! This daw has helped me produce podcasts, tracking music, mixing and mastering as well as producing wav. files and mp3's. Thank you Audacity! 20+ years and you keep getting better and better!!

i just downloaded Audacity to my new laptop--gifted to me as a necessity because my previous laptop crashed. Prior to that, I was using Studio One. When I downloaded S1, I found out that the version I previously used wasn't free and for some reason wasn't compatible even though the laptop wasn't particularly that old. From the comments I'm reading, people are satisfied with Audacity. As a musician, songwriter, and singer whose knowledge of recording is limited, I hope that I can share in the positivity. Thanks for doing this.
