Adhesive Vinyl Layering - Simplified

Jessica purchased this cute design from Kolette Hall in the Silhouette Store. Layering isn’t as tricky as it seems.

After purchasing your design, ungroup it. This will separate each part making it easy to work with. Don’t forget to put a weeding box around the design.

After each piece is ungrouped fill in each part with the desired color. After everything is colored duplicate each layer the number of colors that are in the project, one time for each.

After it’s duplicated have each layer represent one color. Delete everything that isn’t colored pink, or whatever layer you’re on. The trick to this is makings sure to put tabs on each layer.

This will make it easy to line up once it’s cut. After being cut, line up the tabs on each layer for a clean, finished look.

FYI Not sure if the basic edition has this but the Designer edition you can hit cut, then click advanced settings. This will bring up a chart with all the colors you have used in your project. You can then check the box of the color you wish to cut (and the color of your tabs). Rinse and repeat for each color. (This way you do not have to duplicate your design nor worry about accidentally moving things while deleting pieces of the colors you are not currently cutting) -- In Vs 4 of Studio you would use the SEND tab then the ADVANCED tab to bring up the color cutting chart.
