For basketball and football, expectations are higher than I can ever remember.

2003 it was supposed to be promising, but injuries early in the year hurt us. We then steamrolled the “best” team OU ever had to win the Big 12 championship. Klein’s 2012 season was hyped up pretty well too.

For me personally there's a couple of reasons why I'm looking forward to this season. First of all I believe we have a team that has the ability to win every game they play, whether they do or not remains to be seen but how many K-State football teams could we say that about? And secondly, because of all the crap that's going on in the world right now it makes that distraction called college football all the sweeter. So yeah bring all those Wildcats!

Yes there is a ton of positive anticipation for all the reasons you mentioned, I go back further than you do Fitz I have never seen the anticipation this high.

There is no 29 year losing streak to one team that was still in top 10 like 98. Therefore 98 edges out.
Getting Nebraska at home was the entire season. There was one target and a gorilla to get off the back.

No doubt anticipation is very high, but IMO, it was just as high, or higher, before the ‘98 season. Michael Bishop and the Cats had just hammered Donovan McNabb’s Syracuse squad in the big-time Fiesta Bowl, we had the best returning defense in school history. The original “Lynch Mob” Expectations were through the roof.

Update: Now that I’ve actually watched the DD, I agree with you about social media’s contribution to this season… I hope we climb up on the ‘98 team’s shoulders and finish what those dudes started.

2000? Went 11-1 in 1999, had Beasley coming back at QB with Allan, Lockett and Morgan. I remember the cheerleaders throwing oranges into the stands at the first game...and then OU happened...

Yes, for me it was when DE joined the team. That Kansas piece seemed to fill a void. Not that DJ and AJ could not manage well generating yards. Having three great "options" in backfield, with a strong passing game, gives this team electric potential.

There are several seasons that were as anticipated as much or more. As you say social media tends to create a firestorm inside of an echo chamber and I think the absolute ceiling is 9 wins. There are a ton of question marks on offense.

On paper this is the best talent offensively I’ve seen on a Kstate team. I think it rivals some of the best teams in CFB
