In part 2 of our 13 part series on Understanding and Interpreting ABGs, Dr. Andrew Wolf from Health Ed Solutions provides an in-depth look at hypoxemia.

As part of the ABG series, this video provides an in-depth look at hypoxemia.

👉 Hypoxemia refers to how much oxygen can be carried by the blood.
👉 The values to analyze for hypoxemia are the PaO2 and oxygen saturation.
👉 The formula for the carrying capacity of the blood is discussed.
👉 Most of the oxygen is bound to hemoglobin.
👉 Causes of hypoxemia include hypoventilation, decreased hemoglobin carrying capacity, and increases in the alveolar/arterial gradient.
👉 The anatomy and physiology of each of these causes are discussed.
👉 The FiO2 is the amount of oxygen the patient is breathing in and the video explains the physiology of how it relates to the degree of respiratory failure.

We hope you enjoyed part 2 of our Understanding and Interpreting ABGs 13 part series from Health Ed Solutions. Stay tuned for part 3!
