Dude, you are awesome! thanks so much for this. I have been using my Linux box and the compress application (which does an awesome job) to compress videos. I now use a restricted laptop, and I can't install things, and I don't want to go to the basement and convert files all the time on my Linux box. So I needed something to use on my work laptop. I was getting ready to use handbrake command line when I came across your video. WOW! what a time-saver I downloaded the portable version, and Shazam! done deal. thanks again.

That's fine. But after one or two years we now have faster, smarter and more advanced chat-gpt that generates for you the bat-file with all the features and options you ask of it to work with FFMPEG and it really helps. But you still need to understand those commands to be able to adjust something for higher speed or quality.

Thanks Scott. I was having trouble getting 10bit 422 directly into Cyberlink Powerdirector and had successfully used Handbrake. I got errors with XDCAM but Apple ProRes worked great. In addition, the footage I shot was with an anamorphic lens, so I selected the 2.39 aspect ratio and it de-squeezed perfectly as part of the conversion.

Honestly I tried it and videos with same used codec are bigger than from Handbrake.
Maybe video will decoding longer but in Handbrake outup will be smaller.

@1:46.When I select "auto" the program still used the CPU. I had to go to the advanced feature drop down and select Hardware Acceleration: Nvidia NVENC. When I started I could see the GPU was now being used.

I used to write FRONT-END software in the early to mid 20's like that, because any newby who bought a computer for the first time in those days didn't know what a command prompt was. In fact, I was too lazy to use command prompts myself, so I wrote VB programs and batch files for myself. I still use batch files today.
It looks like it has an output "file size" calculator built in. For my ROKU Ultra most 90 minute 1080p movies look good enough for me when set at 1, 200MB, on a 50" screen. But that's just my opinion and my bad eyes.

Appreciate your share, Scott - pardon the noob question but is it weird that I don't have the 1:45 Set GPU decoding option in settings; it goes from End action radio button to Set scale mode. Is there an install mode or does the latest version not have this?

Why can't there ever be a passthrough audio and subtitles feature? Maybe the only thing I want affected is the video so it works better on a server!
