Boeing New CEO To Cancel Starliner Program!
Kelly Ortberg, the new Boeing chief executive, is seen by many as Boeing's last hope to save a giant on the brink of decline.
He arrives at a time when the company is suffering a humiliating setback and a huge loss in its space ambitions, with the Star liner program failing to complete its most important test flight.
This left him with a life-or-death question: Should the Star liner program be canceled to save a dying Boeing, especially when NASA doesn't want it to happen?
Find out everything in today's Techmap episode.
But before we begin, let's subscribe to the channel to stay up-to-date with the latest space news.
Boeing New CEO To Cancel Starliner Program!
It's no coincidence that Boeing engineers lobbied NASA to allow a crewed Star liner return even though they had yet to find the root cause of the spacecraft's propulsion system failure.
Clearly, it is so humiliating for the giant aerospace company when its vehicle has to rely on its upstart rival to carry astronauts home. However, the issue is not just a matter of reputation, but also a balance between national duty and strained cash reserves.
Should or shouldn't continue to pour money into the Star liner's project? While the aerospace community is calling for the abolition of this wasteful program, for Boeing's newly appointed CEO, Kelly Ortberg, things don't seem so simple.
Boeing New CEO To Cancel Starliner Program!
Should keep Star liner alive?
Before Ortberg joined Boeing, executives had vowed to honor the company’s contract to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station for Nasa.
This accommodates Nasa's purpose in the commercial crew program, meaning having two vehicles to ensure redundancy in the urgent case. Currently, SpaceX Dragon is the only safe and reliable vehicle to ferry astronauts to space other than US rivals Russia and China.
This partly explains why NASA has gone to great lengths to help Boeing get here regardless of delays the vehicle has encountered.
Take, for example, Star liner's first crewed test flight which has been delayed for 7 years. It should have been canceled until the persistent issues of the hardware and software were fixed. But Nasa cut corners in the procedure by downplaying the helium leak which was found just hours before launch and then, allowing the spacecraft to launch.

If this was the other way around, NASA would have grounded SpaceX permanently. There is no longer a need for Boeings Starliner.

Clickbait title. No decision made. Just a rehash of stuff I already knew.

In future I'll pass on Tech Map as headlines are

When a YouTube video claims a shocking development with its title that hasn’t been similarly reported by mainstream media, I usually check the comments before wasting my time watching the video. This time I didn’t do that and I totally regret it!

I hate clickbait titles. RELIABLE news sources are still reporting that the Boeing Starliner Program MAY be cancelled but NOT YET. "Not Interested" in further TECH MAP videos.

NASA wouldn't have a space program without SpaceX

You have NO basis for your clickbait AI videos saying Boeing CEO will cancel Starship. These claims are rediculous.

Fire Bill Nelson and the rest of the idiots making the decisions and not the engineers. Time to say Bye-Bye to Boeing.

The Starliner will "accidentally" burn up on reentry putting Boeing out of its misery.

Boeing Starliner cost per seat $90 million
SpaceX Crew Dragon cost per seat $55 million

This is probably a necessary short-term move by Boeing. However the real long-term problem with Boeing can be traced to when McDonald Douglas acquired Boeing (I know that supposedly it was the other way around but realistically it was as I stated). In the name of stockholder equity, Boeing/McDonald Douglas management shifted the emphasis from engineering to profits. The problem is that they pushed it too far. iThey lost their engineering/manufacturing expertise. This kind of thing takes years to build but not too long to lose.

NASA should ensure Dragon has the right support over the next 20 or 30 years. Starship is a decade away. Another revision of falcon 9 would be fantastic. Not sure where blue origin is now.... Other than mishaps handling the stages. I am not a Musk fan. But spacex is the future. Boeing is the past.

It's a pity that it came to this. But an acquaintance of mine was hired to transport the Multi Billion Dollar craft across country for testing. His comm skills were pitiful. Thinking how would a security team allow such a person in their link of responsibility? I knew the man. He was as bright as dusty coal. And half as sharp. He tried to talk fast but jumbled the words, and wouldn't shut up to see if the message was received. I just watched in amazement. He got the job done, congrats for that, but at what risk? He was a martyr for screwing up. I still am amazed they let him drive, much less a big rig.
So what I am saying is I saw the writing on the wall 15 years ago. He sucked at governor, he can ruin NASA better? Yep.

I'm sure Boeing will be more than glad to continue its endeavor with Starliner as long as NASA (in other words the taxpayers) gives them more money. Boeing is a cash cow.

They said it cutting corners will do this every time. What a waste of taxpayers money.

Boeing should probably consider selling the starliner project to a private company. They should focus on keeping their airplanes in the air and intact.

I charge $1000 per minute to verify your videos. The video description says CEO to cancel Starliner, but now where in the video is there any mention of the CEO canceling Starliner. I have verified this video is a fraud. I will be sending you a bill for my services, thank you.

Presumably if Boeing cancel, they should have to refund the fixed price contract.

Starliner is so badly designed that it's likely unfixable.
