In my opinion, you should never close doors, if you can leave them open if you regret "leaving" something, you can always come back. If you really don't want to, because you don't dig that anymore, okay, leave the door open, you'll eventually stop doing it anyway.

With a contract, of course it needs to be clarified if you're ceasing activities, but the whole idea of not completely going away from something, it's the perfect mindset for me. If you want to be poetic, it's like life, you don't leave it, it eventually fades when you're done with it.
