One thing I appreciate about James Cameron is his respect and intelligence enough to do this expedition the right way and put safety first. He did not let his ambition get the best of him like the experts at Ocean Gate. James used his own money and did not endanger other people's lives unnecessarily.

This may be nearly a decade old, but as a man with a passion for the seas and the history of various sea vessels, I now have even more respect for James Cameron.

This thing went SO much deeper than the Titan. James Cameron chose the right company to do exploring with.

It's exactly 7 miles from my house to the nearest grocery store and I use that reference distance to continually amaze myself about Mr. Cameron's dive. Wow! That's deep.

Much respect to James Cameron. He did his research, respected the dangers of the deep sea and with his team, built a vehicle twice as strong. Getting to the bottom of the ocean and returning safely is an engineering feat.

James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because he is, James Cameron.

I really don't care what his "hidden motivations" were or how much money he has. I know two things he has for sure: one is a potent spirit of adventure, and two is unflagging courage. I know how much anxiety I'd feel slowly descending to the deepest part of the ocean, alone into absolute darkness with unimaginable deep water pressure bearing down on my untried little deep sea diving submarine.

To think he could have died down there, risking his life for something he loves is a very manly virtue, good on you James!

James is a legend. I remember watching the Titanic as a kid. The guy who made that amazing movie laid his eyes on the actual ship over 30 times. Unbelievable. Just as amazing of a movie director as he is a fearless explorer and risk taker.

NOT THE FIRST ! This was done by two insanely brave men in 1960 -
Trieste was the first manned vessel to have reached the bottom of Challenger DeepThe Trieste is a Swiss-designed, Italian-built deep-diving research bathyscaphe ("deep boat") with a crew of two, which reached a record maximum depth of about 10, 911 metres (35, 797 ft), in the deepest known part of the Earth's oceans, the Challenger Deep, in the Mariana Trench near Guam, on 23 January 1960, crewed by Jacques Piccard (son of the boat's designer Auguste Piccard) and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh achieving the goal of Project Nekton.
