The Philippine Navy eyes 15 more Israeli-made super-fast missile boats

MANILA – The Philippine Navy (PN) is planning to acquire at least 15 more Israel-made Shaldag Mark V missile boats, which are the basis of its Acero-class patrol gunboats.

"We are planning to get 15 additional 'Acero'-class gunboats (to augment the) nine (now on the pipeline)," Navy chief Rear Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr. told reporters on the sidelines of the commissioning and send-off ceremony for the fast attack interdiction craft missiles (FAIC-Ms) BRP Nestor Acero (PG-901) and BRP Lolinato To-Ong (PG-902) Monday.

The PN needs to continue the modernization programs that are ongoing. Glad to see the PN get oit of the gun club and enter into the missile age.

We cannot compete with China in number of ships that is the truth. But in protecting our islands we don't need large ships that are too expensive, not fuel efficient and most of all only capable of patroling a small area. With the same budget we could have several number of fully armed Shaldag that can patrol a greater number of areas in our country. Uselessness of larger navy ships was noted few months ago when a Chinese navy ship entered our territory and the Philippine navy announced not sending our navy ships in order not to provoke China, so what's the use.

Why Philippine navy much focus in shaldag, , why dont they aquire much bigger warship, chinese militia bullying them because of small ship, ,
