To the parents of this bassist;

For the love of music, PLEASE, continue to support this young man’s musical talents and future. If he needs “gear”- get the gear. If he’s not already taking lessons, please get him a subscription to Scott’s Bass Lessons. If he forms a band, and jams with other people, offer to use the garage, or a room, wherever, and for 4-5 hours once a week you hear some loud rock and roll, and you get to watch your son turn into a legend. It takes 10, 000 hours to master an art, and he is well, WELL on his way. As a bassist AND a father (2 adult children and one 17 year old) I IMPLORE you… take him to the guitar store every week just to look at the poster board with all the “musicians wanted” pages. Take him to as much live music performances as you can, and take turns, your choice, his choice. Frequent jazz festivals, jazz clubs, and influence him to focus on sight reading and theory. Once he masters sight reading and jazz theory he will be absolutely UNSTOPPABLE. He has the rhythm, he has the drive, he has the ear, the passion and a future WIDE OPEN.

6 string Marcus Miller, Earnie Ball Bongo Bass or Warwick Dolphin bass (must be a 6 string, Ibanez makes a 7 string but that’s much).

This young man is an artist. As a parent, I know you want to do right by your children within your means. He is an artist, and I feel that, with every new paintbrush you provide him, the more tools he has at his disposal to become the best he can be.
