There is another angle to look at this question. What if you have fruit and vegetable in your garden that need to be processed for long time storage? I guess most of the preppers wont have access to a freeze  drier, so they will go with dehydrating. I have been dehydrating plums and apples for 10 years now. I put them in a simple paper-bag and they last years as long as you can keep the bugs out of them. In a long term shtf-scenario, a solar-powered dehydrator may be the only thing you have.

Can you “can” freeze dried or dehydrated foods to help it to store longer?

50-60% of nutrients remain after dehydrating the food this is a partial info. You can dehydrate at 150 degrees and lose nutrients but at lower temperatures you may not. Give us the numbers not opinions.

The cost. Freeze dryers cost about #3500 to $4000. They can only process small amounts at a time. And it takes two days to run a cycle. Your electric bill will be very high. Canned and dehydrated food does not loose that much nutrition. If you by food in a can, that is canned food. Freeze drying a small amount of food can cost thousands of dollars. Canning is far less money. And the food does not need hydrating. Dehydrating cost much less as well. Don't buy into the hype.
