ipd Volvo - PCV Breather Box Assembly - P1/P3 5 Cyl Volvos

preview_player
Показать описание
This is the cute little diaphragm that goes inside the oil separator/breather box assembly on most of the 5 cylinder P1 and P3 cars. When this diaphragm is compromised or torn it results in the famous "idle squeal of death" while stuck in daily traffic.

There was a chassis break early in the P1 cars but any cars that have had PCV dealer service are likely updated to the later style. If your early car has been updated to the later style box (indicated by part number 31338685 on the top cover) and the diaphragm has failed again, this is the diaphragm that fits 31338685.

For all P3 five cylinder Turbo (S60/V60/XC60/V70) and P1 five cylinder (C30/C70/S40/V50) from engine 3285662- onward.

I replaced the diaphragm but the noise is still happening, as well as the excessive vaccume from both the dipstick and the oil fill. Any advice?

Today I replaced that diaphragm but it didn't help. Still noise is there. Probably need to change entire PCV box.

Not so easy on a 2006 c70, plastic become brittle and when you try to pop off the cover the plastic housing is gonna Crack. Just replace the whole unit, you'll be glad you did. Any you do not need to remove motor mount, yeah the air box is tight but totally doable to remove

It is easy to replace it once you have the whole part on your hands but don't know where it is located or how to reach it to have access..

In an attempt to help the PCV system ad prevent clogging, is it a good idea to install an oil catch can somewhere in the system? If so I'd assume it'd be right before the breather box to prevent it from getting clogged up

Does this cure high crank case pressure ? I removed that cover and the diaphragm is good but it’s pushing oil out the oil fill cap when I drive it .

My pcv clogged up and so oil started leaking from every seal in the engine! The previous owner drove the car only for short trips. Ive bought the car just 3 weeks go...

This piece gets screwed up pretty easy... I just replaced my diapraghm like one week ago, lets see how much time does it take to tear again

Not if the cap is bonded in place like mine was which was purchased new in 2016. Took the lip off along with the cap.

U don't have to remove the airbox, but removing it makes things a lot easier.

Why not use the same pcv valve and direct the oil vapor discharge outside?

not that handy with it in place, but yes it can be done . I just moved the air box over and that left room, the diaphragm alone did not fix my problem so fitted an oem filter housing complete took me about two hours with an oil change and a cup of tea in the time scale too .
