INGREDIENTS for COOKING
FARRO with Berta Jay
---------------------------------------------------------
TWO WAYS TO PREPARE this ancient grain:
1. Soak 1 cup of farro in water for 30 minutes. Be sure the water is covering the grain by at least 2 inches - OR -
2. Soak 1 cup of farro in water overnight. Be sure the water is covering the grain by at least 2 inches.

TO COOK
Way 1:
a.. Pour off the soak water after 30 minutes.
b. In a saucepan, bring 3 cups of water to the boil.
c. Add the soaked farro to the boiling water and bring the water to the boil again.
d. Cook for 20-30 minutes. Pour off any water remaining after this time. It's done.
Way 2:
a. Pour off the in the morning.
b. In a saucepan, bring 3 cups of water to the boil.
c. Add the soaked farro to the boiling water and bring the water to the boil again.
d. Cook for 10-15 minutes. Pour off any water remaining after this time. It is done.

My objective for this channel is to share with others what I have learned over the last 30+ years about living and eating healthier. I share my knowledge with my small circle of friends all the time. I am not a doctor, nor do I hold any type of medical degree, but I believe that my tried experiences may help someone else.

For over 30 years I have used every diet imaginable to lose weight, but I confess that I am now at home using the vegan lifestyle. I want to share what I have learned about eating and enjoying food. And, since I am still learning how to be more consistent with this lifestyle, I have decided to eat more healthily, realizing the weight will come off eventually. Though I have not reached my goal weight, I know that sharing with other people in front of a camera with help me to stay on course.

I have, with the help of my husband of 37 years, raised 3 grown children. I will also share some cooking shortcuts as well as some natural formulas I have used and still use for everyday problems.

Nice intro to a lesser-known whole grain. I enjoy cooking with farro. It also adds a welcome nutty chewiness to chopped veggie salads and makes them more filling. Thanks, Berta! ~Michele

Hi Ms Berta! First of all, thank you for this video! I've heard of farro but had never tried it until watching your video. We thoroughly enjoyed it in a salad with cubed, oven - roasted butternut squash, chopped kale and dried cranberries. There is no shortage of ideas for preparation and serving to be found online. This will be fun to research and experiment with in meal planning. Thanks again for this video! As always, Evan is on top of his game as camera man!☺

A great grain!
The first time I ate it a friend from India made it as a cross between a side dish and a dessert. He cooked dried fruits w/ it----lovely! :)
